EDI at Credenhill
Introduction Welcome to the Credenhill EDI info page, this page is designed to explain what EDI is and why we intend to implement such a solution. Please read below if you wish to learn more about EDI. What is EDI? EDI is a software or service that allows businesses to exchange documents over the internet securely, removing the need to print additional copies and generally cut down the amount of paper we use every day. You input your orders into your software or service which then translates the document into a format specified by your supplier. The document is then sent to a VAN which stores the data until your supplier’s software or service collects the data and uses it to raise an order. Click here to see a diagram of how EDI works Why EDI? Recently many of our customers especially larger ones are moving to less paper based systems. EDI is one of these digital systems designed to reduce the amount of paper used within the company and also reducing the need to send and receive paper business documents via Royal Mail. So by introducing EDI both customer and supplier would reduce how much time and money is spent sending paper documentation. EDI also takes the responsibility of the document out of the hands of Royal Mail and puts it comfortably in the hands of staff at each end. Documents no longer have to be physically handled by anyone other than the sender and recipient. EDI also helps documents skip the delivery time of the post and also the admin time needed to process and sort the item. Instead one account sends an invoice and another receives it and being electronic the whole process is instantaneous. Thank you for taking the time to read. |
